Jae Laffer (The Panics) + Alexander Gow

4pm
FREE ENTRY - 4PM All through August Jae Laffer of The Panics will be doing a Sunday residency at The Gem, playing songs from his new album, The Panics and solo stuff. With special guests: Ellen James (4th), Lucy Grash & Tommy Brooks (11th), Molly McKew (18th), Alexander Gow (25th). Laffer is recognised as one of Australia’s finest songwriters; with The Panics and solo, he has crafted several albums worth of classic songs that embrace both stark intimacy and unapologetic grandeur. The Panics were discovered by Manchester’s Happy Mondays in 2000 and went on to win an ARIA and Triple J ‘Album of the Year’ for ‘Cruel Guards’. The band have recorded six albums, toured the globe and continue to hold a unique place in Australian music. Laffer’s new album is ‘Dream of Life' “Jae Laffer’s vivid songs have a voice of their own - Modern hymns for a generation, anthems of rash joy and quiet heartbreak”- Daily Mail UK “Laffer has always been a rich and evocative storyteller, whether he’s narrating small-town road trips or reflecting on those halcyon days hanging out in his native Perth”. Rolling Stone Magazine “You know how normally when you hear a band you can list the bands that influenced them or that they ripped off straight away? We couldn't do it for them. They sounded like nothing I'd heard before – really melodic, atmospheric." - Nathan Followill (Kings of Leon), Rolling Stone Mag USA
